My thoughts:
I would like to start this review by saying this is an amazing start to a series!! I've been debating for a couple of days on what to write without having spoilers... And I've finally decided to just tell you how great this short introduction is! I literally sat down and read it in about an hour and loved it from page one! I can't wait to read the next part of Kiera's story :)

With vengeance in her soul, Chloe is even more determined to follow through on her vow when she discovers the true identity of her enemy and how he is connected to her

The Vampire Hunter's Daughter is the first in a series of short stories by Jennifer Malone Wright.

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed this first segment in this series. The author skillfully pulled you in and told you a great story. I was hooked from page one and honestly would have gone crazy if I didn't have part two to follow up with. This segment has a ton of suspense, action, and downright crazy fight scenes. I recommend this book to all who like a bit of a twist on the normal vampire/hunter story :)

War within Two Worlds: A Warrior's Spiritual Journey by Maxime Antoine

War within Two Worlds: A Warrior's Spiritual Journey

Ountam was a warrior. He had spent his life engaging in battle. This made it very hard for him to accept the teachings of his Maat priestess, who encouraged him to live by the principles of love and peace.

As a defender of the Temple, he sought to protect this way of life. Yet when faced with a difficult encounter in battle, he lets his anger get the better of him. He fights to kill rather than to paralyze and hopefully rehabilitate his opponents. It is this rage that leads to his demise and his journey to the next plane.

Now Ountam must learn to control his emotions so he can lead his community in the ultimate battle against the Dark Deceased. It is a monumental challenge, but the power of love must prevail in order to bring peace to the next plane and light to its inhabitants.

I received a complimentary copy of War within Two Worlds: A Warrior's Spiritual Journey by Maxime Antoine as a member of the Dorrance Publishing Book Review Team.  Visit dorrancebookstore.com to learn how you can become a member of the Book Review Team.

My Zombie Body by Mario Lurig

Cover for 'My Zombie Body'

Imagine your body no longer listened to you. You were trapped, experiencing the world in a new way: without any control over your actions. It's a world filled with sleep deprivation, mind games, and unthinkable acts.

Welcome to my world.
-----
"My Zombie Body" is a first person zombie novella for the reader who enjoys a twist on a new classic genre. 50% of author royalties will be donated to Child's Play Charity.

I received this book from the author, who is in no way reimbursing me for my review.  I absolutely loved the first person point of view that the author writes with in this book. It's a refreshing twist to an ordinarily mundane topic for me. I could totally see this book becoming a full length novel. I recommend it to everyone because A. It's zombies! and B. Proceeds go to Child's Play Charity. Why wouldn't you buy it after those reasons??

Oceans of Red Volume Two By Willow Cross

Cover for 'Oceans of Red Volume Two'

Synopsis:
Remy's saga continues as she comes to terms with who she is and what she will become.

My thoughts:
I really loved this continuation of Ocean's of Red Volume One. Without saying any spoilers, all I can tell you is that there is a lot suspense, action, and adventure being had by Remy and her sister, Shane. They are definitely on the right track, in my opinion, and I can't wait to see what happens in Ocean's of Red Volume 3. This is definitely a series so you must read Volume one to understand what's going on. It's a good thing you can get it for FREE by going here (http://thecoverbybrittany.blogspot.com/2011/10/oceans-of-red-volume-one-by-willow.html) ;) I recommend this series to all that like a little twist on the whole Zombie apocalypse scene :)

Hope for Animals and Their World: How Endangered Species Are Being Rescued from the Brink by Jane Goodall, Thane Maynard (Contributor), Gail Hudson (Contributor)

At a time when animal species are becoming extinct on every continent and we are confronted with bad news about the environment nearly every day, Jane Goodall, one of the world's most renowned scientists, brings us inspiring news about the future of the animal kingdom. With the insatiable curiosity and conversational prose that have made her a bestselling author, Goodall-along with Cincinnati Zoo Director Thane Maynard-shares fascinating survival stories about the American Crocodile, the California Condor, the Black-Footed Ferret, and more; all formerly endangered species and species once on the verge of extinction whose populations are now being regenerated.

Interweaving her own first-hand experiences in the field with the compelling research of premier scientists, Goodall illuminates the heroic efforts of dedicated environmentalists and the truly critical need to protect the habitats of these beloved species. At once a celebration of the animal kingdom and a passionate call to arms, HOPE FOR ANIMALS THEIR WORLD presents an uplifting, hopeful message for the future of animal-human coexistence.

I purchased this audiobook after hearing about the author in one of my Anthropology classes. This book is definitely an eye-opener as to HOW involved one can be in nature and how "easy" it could be to reverse the effects of our "footprint"...if only we would try... It is a good read (listen) for all that are interested in the topic, conservation of our wildlife, and in Anthropology in general.

Deadly Defiance (A Stan Turner Mystery #10) by William Manchee

A young mother complains to Stan that she’s been abandoned by her husband, left penniless, and deeply in debt. Maureen Thompson is livid with her husband and suggest she’d be better off if he were dead, so she could collect on his sizeable life insurance policy. Stan cautions her not to think in those terms and, before she leaves, promises to develop a strategy for effectively dealing with her seemingly unsurmountable problems. Several weeks later Maureen calls Stan from the City Jail where she’s been arrested for the alleged murder of her husband. Since Paula is between murder cases, Stan assigns the case to her. She is elated with the assignment until she finds out Rodney Thompson isn’t her first husband to fall victim to a seven-inch ice pick.

While Paula is busy trying to prove Maureen Thompson isn’t the Ice Pick Killer, Stan and Jodie try to help an illegal Hispanic woman obtain redress for the murder of her husband at the hands of a sweatshop owner with ties to a Mexican drug cartel. It’s a dangerous case so Stan and Jodie team up with the Dallas Police and the FBI to attempt to bring the abusive employer to justice. But just when they think they have Icaro Melendez on the ropes he strikes back with a vengeance making Stan and Jodie wish they’d never taken on the case. But there is no going back now, so they press on, praying they’ll survive a final confrontation with the ruthless cartel.

I won this audiobook on Goodreads First Reads. I didn't think that I would be able to get into this book being that it was #10 in a series, but it was very easy to associate with. The characters were very well developed and the story line was so well written that I would definitely be interested in reading the others in the series and recommend reading at least this one to all who love a good murder mystery :)

The Soul's Sonata by Rachael Wade

At only twenty-five years old, Emily has lost her sense of worth and her identity has faded into a distant chasm. Abused, isolated, and a former shell of herself, she is trapped in her mind and in her music. Yet she has a dream—the only thing that reminds her she is still alive.

I absolutely LOVED this short story. It shows that if you have the strength to let a wonderful distraction take you away, you can. Emily's use of music and gardening as her escape from reality is a way that hits close to home. This story definitely gives hope to those in similar situations!! I can't wait to read more from the Author :)

Escape: A Short Story Ebook By K.W. McCabe

The author definitely captures the essence of a "ghetto" neighborhood and portrays it well through the eyes of a well meaning, but disturbed young girl. Everyone hopes for a way out but doesn't have the opportunity like Aisha. Definitely a great read that I hope gets expanded into a longer story :)

Wicked Little Lies Part 2 by Tanya Contois

Jocelyn has just turned 18 but instead of having the big celebration she was looking forward to for so long she finds out that not only is she not fully human but the people who raised her aren’t her real parents. Instead of staying to listen to her parents’ explanation she takes off and ends up going to live with her biological parents Jacoby and Adeline. Jocelyn quickly makes new friends and gains a potential boyfriend named Sonny but things are far from safe when Kane, another cambion makes his presence known. Now Jocelyn is left with many questions but few answers. What does the future hold for her and will she end up with Sonny? Only time will tell.

I received this book from the author, whom I met through Bee's Knees Reviews (http://beeskneesreviews.blogspot.com/). After finding out that not only has her whole life up until her 18th birthday has been a lie, but also finds out that she is betrothed to a major jerk of a guy! Kane keeps pulling her into his dreams in a horribly failed attempt at winning Jocelyn over.  I don't think Kane knows what he has gotten himself into. This another great part and I can't wait to read the next part of the book!!!

The Spirit Box by JH Glaze

When Walt Turner's mother died, he inherited her apartment and the antique shop below. After losing his job due to the treachery of a co-worker, The Spirit Box calls to him from the darkness of the shop with an offer of revenge.

Lured by the promise of ultimate power and eternal life by the prisoner inside the box, Walt agrees to help it gather the final spirits it requires to return to human form.

John Hazard is investigating a series of murders and missing persons in this otherwise quiet town. His perceptions of reality are about to be altered in a life changing confrontation that will force him beyond the boundaries of darkness and ancient evil.

It is a spiraling descent into madness, where you may have everything you desire, if only you are willing to sacrifice all that you believe.

When you look into The Spirit Box, be prepared to have more than your breath taken away.

I won this book in a giveaway and received it from the author. I have to say that this is one of the most interesting books I have read to date. Walt finds The Spirit Box in his departed mother's antique shop after having several dreams about where it was located. He is unable to open it himself but soon the box starts talking to him and convinces him to help the box finish his quest. After an unfortunate incident at work, Walt has no guilt in bringing a co-worker to the box. He is required to bring more people after that and with the final person is accepted by the box, Walt turns on it and tries to destroy it to no avail. Unfortunately (or fortunately...however you want to look at it...) John Hazard is assigned to the cases of the missing persons and comes upon Walt at a most inconvenient time! you will have to get a copy of this book to understand what I'm talking about ;) This is truly a great read and I can't wait to read the author's next book, NorthWest. I recommend The Spirit Box to everyone that has had a co-worker that has done something you didn't like. This is definitely the ultimate revenge book :)

Lifting the Wheel of Karma

Joseph Connell is a gifted high school athlete from Montana, loved deeply by his family, yet tormented by nightmarish visions he can neither explain nor escape.

If Joseph is ever to find the peace he so desperately seeks, he must get this wise old man to reveal what he truly knows, but that will not be easy…for this sage knows far more than he admits.

I received this book from the author, whom I met through Bee's Knees Reviews (http://beeskneesreviews.blogspot.com/). I really enjoyed reading this book. My Brother's Keeper by Brian Bowman

I received a complimentary copy of My Brother's Keeper by Brian Bowman as a member of the Dorrance Publishing Book Review Team. Visit dorrancebookstore.com to learn how you can become a member of the Book Review Team.

In the criminal underworld of Detroit, power is the most sought-after currency. The three Martin brothers, Tony, Mike, and Dennis, know how to play the game and appreciate their position in the drug world. Their bond as brothers – the only family they have left – is unending; however, one night alters their lives beyond their wildest imaginations, changing everything in a major way.

On that one night, Mike, thinking he can handle a routine drug deal alone, finds himself attacked and mauled by three gigantic dog-like creatures. Barely escaping with his life, the next morning he learns Tony experienced a similar experience when attacked by his date, a famous rapper, whom he swears transformed into Satan himself. Although Mike’s wounds heal surprisingly quickly, Tony is not so lucky, and his passing brings about an unexpected transformation in the brothers’ lives.

As unexplained deaths mount and sightings of Tony, whose body has disappeared from the morgue, are reported, the remaining brothers start to come under pressure both by the cops and their rivals. Will the brothers survive their newfound existence, or will they prove to be their own worst enemies? In a world where nothing is quite as it seems, this otherworldly tale of murder, revenge, and brotherly love questions whether there is room for loyalty in the quest for money, power, and respect.

I actually enjoyed this book a bit more than I probably should have. It was a fast paced book that kept my interest very easily. Sure there are a few typos and slang terms that a few may not be accustomed to, but that did not detract from the reading in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this book if you want a quick read.

Setiana's New Life Part 1 By Beth Wright

One advantage to waking up and going with my mates to morning training, is to see them all train together. Come on now, what woman alive would not want to see built male bodies, glistening with sweat as the move around like some kind of wild erotic dancer.

I received this book from the author. This is yet another wonderful short story by Beth. She definitely has a knack for writing additive series. Setiana is put under a spell, wakes up and finds herself in yet another dungeon of some sort. Only this time she is put in with one of the most beautiful women she has ever seen...but what she finds out about said woman will knock your socks off. A Soul To Steal by Rob Blackwell

Is it the return of the notorious serial killer known as Lord Halloween? Or is it something worse—a figure that can cloak itself as your worst nightmare?

The debut novel from award-winning journalist Rob Blackwell, A Soul to Steal balances suspense, horror, action and humor, building to a gripping and unforgettable conclusion. For readers who enjoy Stephen King, Neil Gaiman and Jim Butcher, A Soul to Steal is the perfect autumn novel.

I received this book from the author, whom I met through Bee's Knees Reviews (http://beeskneesreviews.blogspot.com/). First off I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was a great rendition of the traditional "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and was a great book to read around the Halloween time. I was completely hooked on the book and was able to read it very easily. Dark and Light: A Small Collection of Poetry Ebook By K.W. McCabe

Dark and light poems of inner reflection.

This was a collection of some very reflective poems. Some I could relate to from events in my past. My favorite has to be "Butterfly" as I believe it pertains to my life right now. This is a very short read (4-5 pages) so I recommend that everyone read through them :)

Siren: A Short Story By K.W. McCabe

This is a short story about Kara and a male siren that calls to her, beckoning her to join him in the Sea. At the beginning her mother prevents him from calling Kara to him, but in the end the male siren wins Kara over and she succumbs to his incessant singing.

Frustrations relieved....

After about a month long hiatus from posting reviews, I am glad (ecstatic!!) to announce that I have FINALLY figured out the formatting errors that have been plaguing me from the start!! A very AWESOME friend (WILLOW!!!!) helped me out tonight and without her I probably wouldn't have been posting any reviews for MANY more days (weeks).... Now with that said... I will be updating past posts, as well as adding new posts that should have been added over the past month. So be prepared for A LOT of changes in the next day or so... I will post another update once all of the changes are made :)
